The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has said he did not endorse the candidature Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirant for the 2023 general elections, contrary to media publications.
Speaking during an interview on Arise TV, Ogunwusi said, his office as the Ooni of Ife, the Yoruba cradle, mandates him to support and pray for all aspirants contesting in the 2023 presidential election.
“I’m a royal father, I accepted this throne as a young individual. God actually brought me to the throne that has been in existence for hundreds of thousands of years, I have to support and pray for all,” the monarch said.
Advising Nigerians to look beyond ethnic and religious bias to vote for the best candidates.
He said, ” the call for zoning is based on emotions. Let us cut the chase and go to the factual things. Who is going to turn around this country, irrespective of emotions and sentiments? We have built our institutions on emotions and sentiment, which is unfortunate because it will not last.”
“We have big problems in this country. Who is going to solve them? Let us look at it with our analytical minds other than emotions and sentiments of zoning.
“Let’s look at competence in Nigeria. Emotion has been our problem in this country for a long time, and that is why we are not growing,” he added.
