The Ekiti State Government has announced that it will begin payments to the aged, needy and unemployed in the State.
The Social Welfare Scheme which was launched by the State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has 10,000 beneficiaries who have been shortlisted to receive N5,000 each monthly.
The Governor said the money will be paid directly into the bank accounts of all beneficiaries; he further cited that the programme was designed to support individuals with financial challenges.
Governor Fayose further assured that despite the current economic challenges, his administration will continue to find ways of helping those without support financially, to enable them live in some level of comfort.
He said the beneficiaries cut across the physically-challenged, the albinos, visually-impaired, the aged, among others.
The governor said no fewer than 6,000 beneficiaries had their accounts credited with the money on Wednesday, Oct. 5, the kick-off date.
He explained that the government is trying to reduce fraud and misappropriation crediting the accounts of those who have registered under the scheme with the aim that it gets to the real beneficiaries.
