Female lawmakers, have urged President Muhammadu Buhari, to pick a woman as his running mate in the forthcoming 2019, Presidential elections, while also urging the President to use his veto power pronouncing that of every three senatorial positions in the state, one should be ceded to a woman.

This was made known during the week by the female lawmakers, who were on a courtesy visit to the Presidential Villa, in Abuja.

Speaking to the President, Mrs. Elizabeth Ative, the leader of the female lawmakers, noted that “all over the world, the issue of twinning is being advocated.

“Currently, many African and European Nations are daily finding ways to include more women in governance. Some have elected or appointed women as Heads of States, Prime Ministers, Heads of Foreign Ministries and other key positions of decision-making.“It will not be out of place, Your Excellency, for women to be given such opportunities in our dear nation. Even God created them male and female.”

President Muhammadu Buhari, who responded jokingly, said their demand is a threat to the office of Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo. He added that he was not as powerful as they think, as only a military Head Of State, can easily do that, but his hands are tied as a Civilian President, as he now wears agbada.

He added more by thanking the women for their support through the four times he contested for the office of the President. He further, urged them to take his message back to their colleagues, to continue to support him especially with their votes during the next election, in 2019.

“It is a pity that the Vice President is not here, but I am sure the Secretary to the Government of the Federation will brief him that his position is threatened.”

“I am not all that powerful that when I talk it becomes a decree. As I said, it is only the Vice President that is threatened,” he said.
