As President Muhammadu Buhari’s imminent visit to the United States looms large, the United States government has promised to further strengthen its ties with Nigeria in a bid to help Nigeria trace her stolen assets as well as boost Nigeria’s military aid.

The United States Secretary of State, Tony Blinken, disclosed this development to Reuters and according to Tony, “President Barrack Obama has long seen Nigeria as arguably the most important strategic country in sub-Saharan Africa. The question is would there be an opportunity to deepen our engagement and that opportunity is now.”

In the same vein, US officials have expressed their willingness to deploy military trainers to help Nigeria fight insurgency facilitated by Book Haram.

These are coming weeks after the US committed $5 million to supporting the multinational task force organized to curb terrorism in Nigeria.
