Nigerian teen Ruti Olajugbagbe, wins The Voice UK 2018

An 18-year old Nigerian teen, Ruti Olajugbagbe, has won the 2018 edition of The Voice UK.

The show which is a British television talent show, started airing on BBC on the 24th of March, 2012, and was created by John de Mol, with the sole aim of finding new talent’s.
Partaking in the annual show, is no easy task, as contestants have to come out tops on each of the five stages, before they can take part in the show proper. The winner receives a mouth watering sum of £100,000 (about 50,712,120.00 Nigerian Naira ) and a record deal with Republic Records.

There have been seven winners so far since the show started in 2012: Leanne Mitchell, Andrea Begley, Jermain Jackman, Stevie McCrorie, Kevin Simm, Mo Jamil Adeniran, (another Nigerian teen), who won the sixth edition and Ruti, who just won the 2018 edition of the show.

Other finalists who contested in this year’s edition are: The duo of Belle Voci (on Jennifer Hudson’s team), and 27-year-old Lauren Bannon (on Team Olly Murs). All of the finalists performed a duet with their coach during the final.

Although, every one had expected American singer, Will.i.am’s act, 16-year-old Donel Mangena, to win the 2018 edition of The Voice Uk, as the fans favourite since his blind audition. However, Ruti still pipped him to the title.

Songs performed by 18-year-old Ruti, with her mentor, Sir Tom Jones, are, ‘A Wonderful World’ as well as, ‘If You’re Not the One’ by Daniel Bedingfield.
