Nigeria’s Dream Team VI (U-23 team), on Wednesday defeated Senegal, in the first semifinal match of the ongoing Africa U23 Championship, to qualify for the final, while also booking a slot in the 2016 Olympic Games scheduled to take place in Rio, Brazil.
Etebo Oghenekaro’s penalty in the 75th minute was all coach Samson Siasia’s boys needed to ease past the hosts, after Ousseynou Thioune, Senegalese defender handled the ball in his penalty area to prevent Eyo Ebong from scoring.
Nigerian Goalie, Emmanuel Daniel was the hero of the day as he made no fewer than four crucial saves, including a penalty in the 45th minute to keep the Nigerian side from slipping in the game.
With this victory, Nigeria will now meet Algeria, who defeated South Africa by 2 goals to nil.
The Africa U23 Championship final is scheduled to take place on Saturday.
Only three top teams from this championship will qualify to represent Africa in the football event of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
