MTN Group which is a South African owned telecommunication company with base in other countries including Nigeria has come under fire in the recent time in South Africa for high tariff.

MTN Group which is the owner of MTN Nigeria has been accused of charging their subscribers the highest call tariff by Right2Know, a South African advocacy group. The group has launched a campaign against MTN demanding for a cut in airtime/data cost. The group is also demanding for free SMSes for all users of MTN mobile services in South Africa.

The group in its statement has revealed its plan to protest in front of MTN head office located in Johannesburg. Right2Know lamented in its statement that the cost of telecommunication services including the cost for data and airtime were higher in South Africa than in other countries of the world.

The high cost of telecom services in South Africa according to the group is affecting their right to communication and thus it is not acceptable.
