The Super Eagles of Nigeria have crashed out of the CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) in the group stage after suffering a lone goal defeat to the Syli Stars of Guinea.

Tunisia thrashed Niger 5-0 to win Group C on five points, while Guinea, also on five points, finished a runners-up.

Nigeria were third on four points and Niger finished bottom with a point.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles Head Coach, Sunday Oliseh, has apologised to Nigerians via the official twitter handle of the team, over the failure of the team to qualify for the next round of the competition.

“We apologize to Nigerians for this loss; we never planned to exit the tournament this early. The boys gave their best.”

More so, while entertaining questions from journalists in Rwanda before the match, Oliseh was quoted as saying; “to be honest with you (even though) I am not going to go into details, my boys have been working under extreme duress ever since we got here (Rwanda),”

He continued: “I personally feel like we are driving a car with an empty petrol tank.

“I will not go into details so for that reason, I know that this is just another (bit of) difficulty that we have to surmount.

“That notwithstanding, the boys are human beings and let’s just hope we don’t break,” he said.

It was the home-based Eagles first loss under coach Sunday Oliseh and it came at a bad moment and against most expectations as Nigeria were top of the group leading up this West African derby against Guinea and needed just a point to book their place in the last-eight of a competition they finished third two years ago.
