Atiku Abubakar wins PDP Primaries to emerge 2019 Presidential candidate

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has won the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primaries.

The primaries which was held at the Adokiye Amasiemeka Stadium in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Aminu Tambuwal, Governor of Sokoto State and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, had been the favourite to win the election, having earned the support of Nyesom Wike, Governor of Rivers State, who is currently the party’s biggest financier.

However, Atiku won overwhelmingly, polling 1,532 votes to condemn Tambuwal to second place with his 693 votes.

With this victory, come 2019, Atiku Abubakar will now get his fifth shot at the presidency, having aspired for the office at every election, since he left office as Vice President in 2003.

Others who contested at the primaries are;

Senate President, Bukola Saraki; former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar; Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal; Gombe State Governor, Ibrahim Dankwambo; and former Governors Sule Lamido, Ahmed Makarfi, Attahiru Bafarawa, Jonah Jang and Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Others are former Senate President, David Mark, former Senator, Baba Datti Ahmed, and former Minister Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs, Tanimu Turaki.
