Airtel Nigeria has partnered with Access Bank to launch the Smart Savers initiative which will make it possible for Airtel subscribers to open banks accounts with their cellphones without going to the bank. The initiative helps to reduce the crowding of the banking hall and also makes it possible for the bank customers to avoid bureaucracy and complexities encountered in the traditional banking system.

All users of Airtel network would be able to open a saving account via their smartphones. The initiative also takes mobile banking to a higher level as customers will be able to transfer fund from their Access Bank accounts to the accounts in other local banks. Other transactions that can be performed with a smartphone via this initiative include payment of bills, purchase of airtime, checking of account balance and viewing of bank statements and others.

The newly introduced Smart Savers account which is opened with a mobile phone will also make it possible for owners of such accounts to make some savings in order to achieve a targeted goal.

Victor Etuokwu, the Executive Director, Personal Banking, described the Smart Saver as a veritable means of taking advantage of the evolution of technology in providing quick and convenient financial services at the doorsteps of all Nigerians regardless of the socio-economic classes of the person.

According to him, the initiative is a clear manifestation of how dedicated the Bank is in promoting the ongoing CBN’s campaign for cashless transactions in Nigeria. The initiative also proves the commitment of the bank to financial inclusion.

Ahmad Mokhles, the Chief Commercial Officer of Airtel Nigeria who spoke about the initiative said that Airtel is dedicated towards bringing innovative services that will not only empower their customers and make them wealthy. These objectives tally with the vision of the company in helping Nigerians to achieve their visions.
